Riad Zaytoun

Riad · Kasbah · Marrakesh

9.0from 88 ratings

A quiet Kasbah riad restored by the family that has owned it for four generations: zellige floors, a plunge pool under the olive tree, and home cooking that guests book dinner around every single night. There's no bar, no spa, no gym — the offering is stillness, and it's delivered completely. Rooms off the courtyard hear other guests at breakfast; the upstairs pair are the prize.

Why it earns the score

The family's cooking and the courtyard hush — this is the riad fantasy at guesthouse money.

We booked dinner in every night. In Marrakesh.

Good
The family's lamb tagine ended a three-year argument about the best thing I've eaten, and the olive-tree courtyard at $68 a night is the best value I've found on two continents.
Bad
The courtyard-level rooms hear every breakfast conversation from 7:30am, and there's no bar, spa, or anything else — stillness is the entire product.
Verdict
Food-first couples should book the upstairs rooms and every dinner; travelers needing amenities and evening entertainment should take a Hivernage hotel instead.
