A 17th-century building with a painted courtyard, hammocks on the roof, and a nightly staff-led taco crawl that alone justifies the stay. Dorms are airy with real lockers; the church bells and street vendors start early, because the Centro never fully sleeps. Water pressure is colonial too — showers are best described as sincere.

Why it earns the score

The taco crawl and rooftop cathedral view make this the Centro's best $17 decision.

The taco crawl pays for the whole stay

Good
The staff-led taco crawl was the best $0 addition to any hostel stay I've had — six stands we'd never have found, ordered for us in rapid Spanish. Rooftop hammock, cathedral view, seventeen dollars.
Bad
The showers are, as advertised, sincere rather than powerful, and the Centro's church bells plus street vendors mean 7am is not a suggestion.
Verdict
Social budget travelers should base here without hesitation; anyone needing water pressure and mornings off should look to Roma Norte.
