They showed me where the ice stood the year I was born
- Good
- Three hours on ridged blue ice reading ash bands like tree rings, guided by people who treat crampons and climate with equal seriousness. Walking behind Seljalandsfoss soaked and grinning was the bonus round.
- Bad
- Eleven hours door to door is a real day, and Icelandic sideways rain does not trigger a cancellation — only wind does. Dress like you believe them.
- Verdict
- Anyone with functioning knees and waterproofs should do this once; travelers wanting a gentle photo stop should take the south coast bus and wave at the glacier instead.
